to the right and they are looking at it looks like a pile of metal over there. it is hard for us to see from where we are right now but they are standing over it and have a flashlight on it. police say there were two kids and two adults and the driver survived but the passenger did not according to the story we are hearing from the wires the passenger was unable to get out of the car and the car burned essentially so the person was inside the car, pronounced dead at the scene. the identities of the people have not been released -- [ inaudible ] >> reporter: -- police are telling us the car spun out of control, hit a light pole and possibly a tree before crashing and then starting on fire. not been determined if alcohol is a factor in this crash just yet. can't -- it is really dark out here but you are getting a look at that pile of metal right now. we are going to try to investigate what that is. i will be working on getting a lieutenant after here to talk to me. >> two attacks, two robberies al on one night. oakland police say distractions could lead to more incidents like these. jade hern

're in the parking lot outside the w hotel where the victim was discovered this morning. neighbors showed us these tickets found here to give us some insight into the labor day party that ended in gunfire. police say a relative found the body of 26-year-old julius hubes. hubes was next to a wall near some bushes. >> there was a series of between five and 10 gunshot, very rapid fire. and then some very angry words then they used an expletive that wasn't a racial expletive that you don't want to hear. >> reporter: we found this picture of the pool party on faceback, faceback. >> when you have that many people into one area, i'm just thinking, there's going to be trouble tonight. >> reporter: up to 500 people were at the party when officers responded to the shooting. the hotel management asked them to disperse the crowd. they asked freemont and union city police officers for help. >> at that time no victims were reported or reported by area hospitals. >> reporter: the coroners office told us tomorrow an autopsy will be conducted to find out what killed hughes. >> that's sad. because this poor

telling us, there are reports that there is one more confirmed dead bringing the death toll up to four. we talked about the process of going through the neighborhood and seeing how many more victims there are. they found another victim. at this point, what we are doing is monitoring the situation out here. you are looking at a view of the smoke that rises. any time you see white smoke above an area, firefighters say that's a good thing better than black smoke indicating that the fire is getting going. we are expecting that they made progress on the fire fight. we look from above at the neighborhood in front of us where there is still smoke coming up from the large portion of the neighborhood. no visible flames from where we were able to look at. no visible signs of damage. so we know the damage area is further from where we are. the latest out here is that they have confirmed one more dead bringing the toll to four in this fire. this is just beginning. we are checking a lot of updates. we will continue to follow that and bring you the latest information. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news.

they found 20- pounds of this ammonium, a chemical used to make explosives. this is the bomb squad. they said they cannot deal with this type of situation and they called in the atf instead and these two separate scenes. it wasn't just chemicals found in the upland court. the bodies of two women overnight. the police say it was a grisly scene. this is the home of 67-year-old dena allen. allen and her friend, carol smarkt, have been missing since wednesday. this is also a home where suspected killer efren valdemoro was known to say, sometimes trying to pass himself off as allen's son. here's where the story takes another turn -- police say the bodies of these two women had been in this home for a while and apparently during that time, allen husband, who reported her missing, had been living in the home. so he's been arrested and is in custody at this hour. how is this all connected to valdemoro? well, that's still unclear. police say all of this may not be connected to the hercules case in which valdemoro is suspected of killing an elderly man on friday. that man's son is still missing. if we

federal investigators this morning and joins you now -- and joins us now with this live report. >> reporter: good morning, tori. yes, it's been almost a week since this fireball and explosion and fire here in san bruno. there are still so many questions. the ntsb is out here this morning. we're getting more information about where this investigation is headed. key among the question is how did this start, obviously and why did it burn so long? let's talk about the cause. the ntsb has been asking for anyone to come forward if they smelled gas in the days leading up to the explosion. there have been about 90 e- mails sent to the ntsb. but the ntsb said they only had one person who smelled gas and that was two or three weeks before this happened. if they didn't smell gas, that would be a clue. >> if people smell gas in advance, that suggests a failure, where gas is coming out and people smell it. that's a different kind of failure than a catastrophic failure. that would help us determine the cause of this explosion. that's why that's so crucial to us. >> reporter: there's also the

was shot and spoke to a man who lives across the street. he told us he heard 30 shots from what he thought was an assault rifle. and says he hit the ground immediately. it was around 10:30 last night in the 1200 block of 87th avenue. after getting up and making his way outside, he saw family members running out of that house, screaming, they shot mama. police are not releasing any information about the woman. but the neighbor told us, he thought she was in her 50s, living with her large family, along 87th avenue. the man said he had just moved into the neighborhood and hadn't had any problems. so this scared him. paramedics did take the woman to the hospital. and as i mentioned, she's in critical condition. we're live at police headquarters this morning. notice arrests so far. but again, we are waiting for an update from police. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> police in oakland are looking for two other leads. they both took place about 9:45 last night. and one of the shootings was deadly. the fatal shooting happened near a gunfight at 45th and international. polic

. the truck driver tells us that his brakes failed and he couldn't avoid smashing into the row of cars at the bottom of a freeway off-ramp. the accident happened at 4:15 this afternoon on the grand avenue exit ramp from eastbound i-80. ktvu's amber lee is live at the scene tonight with our report. amber? >> reporter: frank, this busy off-ramp remains closed as work hes clean up the debris. there was a lot of damage but few injuries. the truck driver who identified himself to us only as tony, says he was on his way home when the brakes failed. he said he had been hauling dirt in oakland. tony estimates he was going 45 miles per hour down the exit ramp when he couldn't stop his truck. he told us he scrambled to find a way to avoid hitting the vehicles in front of him. >> i was looking at that way, you know, the telephone poles and can't go that way. can't go up the hill. can't hit the side of the freeway. i had nowhere to ditch the truck. and i was just like, praying. >> reporter: the truck slammed into a honda causing a chain reaction. 13 vehicles were damaged. some were totalled. >> i

of the growing investigation. ktvu's jade hernandez joins us with an update. >> reporter: good morning. we've been out here since 4:00 this morning and we have been showing you how the authority is pushing the crime scene tape back. this crime lab vehicle was just -- has just been pulled into the crime scene within the last hour. this is video which we shot moments after the technicians began working. according to protocol, this shooting involved two concord officers. those officers were not hurt. those have been placed on paid administrative leave. the man officers shot and paramedics rushed to the hospital may have been a suspect wanted on several robbery warrants. they say two officers in a squad car patrolling around 2:30 noticed the man who matched the description. the officers tried to make contact along clayton road. the officers at some point in the chase got out of their squad car and an ralph the man only being described as a male in his 20s. authorities are still investigating whether the man actually opened fire on the officers. the man is at john muir medical center in walnut
